Efficient Battery Collection with a Consumer Focus

The project aims at strengthening the infrastructure for the collection of small batteries of different types and thereby making the collection more efficient. The project is threefold; to study the handling of used batteries in homes; the importance of a well-functioning infrastructure for collection; and the formulation of a consistent view of the flow of batteries through society. The efficiency of the collection system is threatened by, for instance, youngsters and young adults not taking the collection as seriously as the older generation. The project will study 2-5 municipalities and suggest changes of the conditions for collection. If it is to be evaluated correctly, the methods for declaring sales- and collection statistics must take into account the storage time before collection. System dynamics methodology will be used for loose batteries and batteries bound to different types of equipment will be developed.
